Landing International Casino Chairman Detained in Cambodia

27/08/2018

Casino operator Landing International’s Chairman, Yang Zhihui, was reported missing on Thursday and it is now known that he has been detained in Cambodia according to a Beijing news source that has ‘verified’ the story.

He was reportedly stopped at the airport following his arrival in Cambodia for a visit to  a local casino. Firm representatives were unable to reach him  at the Hong Kong Stock exchange early that day.

Yang has been at the helm of Landing International Ltd since 2013 and owns 50.48%  of the company. Thursday saw the company stock plummet by 35 percent before trading was halted.

Landing International Ltd has worked very closely with embattled state-owned asset manager, China Huarong, whose previous head is embroiled in what could be considered China’s largest financial sector corruption since 1949.

However, there seems to be no link between the disappearance and the scandal.

Landing International operates in Hong Kong, South Korea, the Philippines and employs 2000 people. The company was also set to build a $1.5 billion casino in the Philippines in August before President Duterte called the deal off and fired the board of Landing International’s local partner.

DraftKings foretell surge in Sports Betting in the US

Sports Betting is becoming increasingly popular as the new NFL season is just 2 weeks away, CEO Jason Robins said in an interview for Yahoo Finance.

It is no surprise that the US sports betting hype is surging in popularity following the mid-May lifting of the ban on wagering on professional & sports leagues by the US Supreme Court. Whilst Sports betting was legal in Nevada and Delaware to a certain degree, prior the SCOTUS ruling, New Jersey and Mississipi have become the first states to legalise that kind of service on their territories.

The DraftKings CEO told Yahoo that he foresees an imminent future, where the company will operate more on Sports betting than fantasy sports as it is doing now. This really depends on how fast the states “roll out” when it comes to the lifting of the ban.

The more states legalise sports betting, the faster this will happen, which he calculates will take between 2-3 years.
