US Military to be screened for gambling disorder

30/08/2018

The new US Defence bill decrees that US Military active duty members are to be screened for gambling problems.

President Donald Trump signed a new bill that will ensure the Armed Forces of America are screened for gambling addiction. He described this policy as “the most significant investment in [the US] military and war fighters in modern history.”

According to Section 73 the House Armed Services Committee Report (pg 165 to 874); the US Department of Defence (DoD) must include medical screen questions related to gambling disorders in the next annual health assessment.

The Secretary of Defence has been placed in charge of handing over the report on the findings of the assessment and surveys to Congress in relation to the frequency of gambling issues among its service members.

This measure has been in the pipeline for the past 16 years, according to the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG). Throughout the 90s gambling disorder screening questions for active duty members was a common practice in surveys, until these were removed in 2002.

NCPG executive director, Keith Whyte, said that previous DoD surveys have revealed that active duty personnel were 2 or 3 times more likely to have gambling addictions.

It is estimated that the number of duty members of the armed forces, with a dangerous penchant for gambling, is as high as 56,000.

Is the US Supreme Court’s Verdict on online gambling putting Canada in an awkward situation?

The US Supreme Court’s verdict on online gambling has proved popular with betting companies. However, the lifting of the ban has put Canada in a sticky situation as it is now being pressured to follow in the US’s footsteps.

Canada’s single-game sports betting ban restricts betting on a single sport or game. Provincial governments must ensure to offer sports lotteries to its members as ‘a 2-way parlay’.

While repealing the law could appear as the next best solution, a bid to legalise single-game sports betting was already taken to the House of Commons and did not go far enough. This has pushed Canadian gamblers to bet through the international sportsbook.

NetEnt is launching a brand-new MAX concept that aims to cater to players, who want to land their hands on big jackpots.

The release of MAX double slots is set for August 23rd with Berryburst and Berryburst MAX. The slots are visually the same with 5 reels and 3 rows. Visually stunning, the slots carry a sense of the already-known as they strike more than a passing resemblance to the ever popular classic slot, Starburst. The names also suggest this.

So what are the differences between Berryburst and Berryburst MAX? The main variance is that Berryburst MAX targets punters who aim for games with high win potentials.

The maximum win of Berryburst is 100,000 coins or £200,000 whilst the MAX version has a maximum win of 200,000 coins or £400,000. MAX slots are known to be volatile at the cost of frequent wins.

In addition, Berryburst has an RTP rate of 96.56% while the RTP rate of Berryburst MAX is that of 96.23%.

The late senator John McCain was one of the authors of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA)

The late senator John McCain was one of those responsible for penning the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA), which allowed the Native American tribes the privilege to operate some forms of gambling on their territories.

The senator passed away last weekend at the age of 81 after battling brain cancer. His views on tribal casinos are being praised by the gaming industry.

In a statement made by the National Congress of American Indians, President Jeffrey Keel, Senator John McCain was honoured by the NCAI and celebrated as a “tireless champion for Indian Country and tribal sovereignty” as he had dedicated many years to Indian Country.

McCain was known to have fun gambling and had a particular fascination for craps. He, however, never accepted loans or credits from casinos.
